“A SONG OF LAMENTATION FOR THE DEAD” NANDI

Sketch by Chris Habana, Photo by Andrew Morales

For the SS19 collection, Chris imagined a scene of figures existing in his dystopian universe irreverently melding Catholic iconography, goth paganism, and sexuality.

Chris envisioned Nandi as a Christ-like savior, devoted to an existence of poverty and obedience. Nandi stands vulnerably, his body minimally clothed in a pair of latex briefs with zipper detail (designed in collaboration with Vex Clothing) and a collection of pagan symbols branding his chest and legs. His outstretched hands and mouth are dressed in stigmata like pieces made of strands of ball chain and silver tipped freshwater pearl pouring from textured metal plates. He is crowned with a wreath of silver barbed wire chain.
