COCO LU XINMAN

Designer Coco Lu Xinman in her own words:

“It’s important to find power in community and support each other, especially in difficult
times like this. Every individual’s experience is unique, and I can only represent myself
when I visualize my experience as a non-binary person through the design of the
earrings, but I hope that the multifaceted aspect of the design reflect the beauty and joy
of being queer and how our lives entangle with each other.”

Drawing inspirations from Bauhaus for its simplicity and emphasis in structure, and kinetic sculptures for their dynamicity, Coco turned the Marble Run toy into a set of pearl earrings on sterling silver wire. In reflection to their own queerness being fluid, dynamic, and by-chance, the pearls move freely on the wire as the embodiment of spontaneity and simultaneity, thriving on the spectrum, moving around disciplines. This sculptural kinetic piece of design wraps around space, making every angle look different, manifesting intersectionality and versatility of the queer identity.

Colors of the pearls come in pink and blue, honoring the trans flag, addressing trans visibility and solidarity.
